Come and Knock on Our Door, Our Manservant Will Be Waiting for You
You may know that I dislike John Edwards because he is an outspoken fan of his grad school (UNC-CH) despite the fact that he got his undergrad degree from NC State, much like my good friend who shall remain nameless. It’s easy to pull for the better team, but loyalty is way more impressive.
Now I also dislike John Edwards because he is a huge hypocrite. I know that politicians have a lot of money. He is no exception. But he stands up there and goes through his whole “son of a mill worker” routine, and his “two Americas” routine decrying poverty. A worthy issue. So then, why does he not practice what he preaches instead of building a new gaudy, excessive home? Check it out.
It’s 28,200 square feet for a four person family!
How does this connect with the common person? Again, yeah, rich people have big houses, but is he planning to house a bunch of impoverished people? Guessing not. Guessing each kid gets 7000 square feet. It may connect with his fellow UNC fans, since the vast majority are not degree-holders from UNC but rather folk who sit on the porch saying things like “I tell ya what, if I had me six million bucks, I’d build my own Cracker Barrel and I’d live right inside it.”
He’s better than what we’ve got now, though, that’s for sure. I’d vote for him over anyone the Republicans run, unless the Rs are hiding some surprise candidate who I will like.
And it would be kind of cool to have Jack Tripper as our President.
Update 1/28:
The NOB has an article on this. And the TV references keep coming. . . the article includes a quote from a NCSU polisci professor named Andy Taylor.
