Pre-Xmas was good. I ate lunch Bo with Cynthia on Thursday, my first day off for the holiday. We then went to Barnes and Noble and I carried books around for Cynthia. Strangely enough, nothing really caught my eye at the B&N. I guess I’ve been there a lot lately. In the afternoon, I was not feeling well, which worried me because everyone I’ve been near since Thanksgiving has been sick. So I took a nap. I was awakened by Bridget calling to invite me for coffee, and as if that wasn’t nice enough, I found after regaining coherence that I felt better as well. I met her at Starbucks — yeah, the great Evil — and found to my delight that she had gone all Betty Crocker and brought me delicious homemade cookies. I got a nice hot drink and one of the marginally attractive girls working there either flirted with me or made fun of me, I’m not sure which. I am going to tell everyone the former but feel the shame of the latter. Bridget and I ambled around aimlessly for a while. Bridget left, Cynthia showed up, and she and I exchanged presents.
Xmas eve I went to my parents’ house in far remote North Raleigh, and that was a good time. We didn’t do the traditional seven fishes — we haven’t for some years — but did three, including triggerfish, which despite being an ugly fish is really quite tasty. Christmas was nice and relaxing, cloudy and cold, fire in fireplace, hired help serving endless juleps. You know how we do at Baumann Manor. For real though, it was nice to hang out with my family.
Sunday, came back in time for a Sunday lunch Bo with Justin, Melissa, and Cynthia. It was nice. Then Justin and I totally went shopping and stuff.
Monday evening, I went for a walk around Lake Johnson with Justin and Adam. It was not a terribly long walk, but was somewhat strenuous because we had a tough time keeping traction on the icy trails. Afterwards we went to Beansprout for Chicken in Dubious Sauce, and after that we actually found something to do. We went bowling at Western Lanes with its old timey non-computerized paper scoring. Justin rolled the best game of any of us, as he broke 100 in one game. We are not very good bowlers but we had a hell of a time. I rolled the green Thundermelon and Baron Adam d’Oeuf — so named for rolling a ton of goose eggs — spent most of the time developing his super-spinning two-handed roll with his divoted Frankenball. It worked a couple of times to our amazement.
We sang to him. Some of our greatest hits:
- In the Name of L’oeuf
- L’oeuf to L’oeuf You Baby
- I Would Do Anything for L’oeuf (But I Won’t Do That)
It was a really good time. I want to go bowling there more often. It ain’t too cheap — $2.50 for shoes and $3.50 a game — but it is fun.
Off to Metropolis tonight. Should be a good time, at least a drunk time, am I right folks? Justin and I are going to put “Operation Bereft of Tact” into motion. And then 3 bonus days in Charm City.
I’m getting sick. Vitamin C to the rescue.
