Today found me. . .

. . . sad because Cynthia left for Ohio. She had to drive through the snow of WV. Weather forecast betrayed her — it was supposed to be nice today. At least she got up there okay.

. . . at Bo for lunch with Jim and Melissa and Billymander. It was the most crowded I have ever seen it, and I have been there before football games. There was not an empty table in the place, and the line was out the door. The food was fine, though, with the exception of my ill-advised trip to the tea refill canister. Some grainy black stuff came out and went into my cup. Ah well, I added some real tea at the counter, mixed it in, and tried not to think about it.

. . . playing a lot of Tiger Woods 2003 on XBox with Billy and Jim. There is a course called the Predator. It ate us alive.

. . . ripping two more new records to mp3: The Doors’ Greatest Hits and James Taylor and the Original Flying Machine.

. . . wondering why it was snowing here. It’s almost April. It’s 34.6° here. Ah well, Justin reports 8″ of something in Blacksburg, and I hope he was telling me about snow.

. . . not wanting to go to work tomorrow. Then again, what the hell would I do if I stayed home.

. . . looking for the Claritin Cynthia bought me. Where the hell is it? I can’t understand how I could lose something in my room. Oh wait.

All right, enough of this. Time to get ready for bed.

oo oo oo, i love u

Ha! Forever will Milli Vanilli be connected with Rosemary in my brain. The sad thing is, about 1990 we all thought this group was the hot stuff.

I am working a lot with Ansys today, and getting my office somewhat arranged for my new furniture (delivery expected tomorrow afternoon). This involves making a 72″ x 30″ table go away. Hmm. Not easy.

Milady picked me up at 7 am sharp this morn, and we went to the Bo. I sip sweet tea during work. A fine day, at least the first 4 hours.

stow this!

I just got spam with the subject line:

Subject: flesh stowage

I usually stow my flesh in 40-gallon barrels; or, failing that, I stow it in the overhead compartments on passenger aircraft. This spam could have offered me more flesh stowage solutions, but alas, there was no content. It appears that opportunity knocked, mumbled something about flesh, and ran away before I could answer the door.

Friday.

A good day.

Ansys is working.

A record player and a watch are on their way to me via UPS.

Cynthia is on the way home.

Bo tonight at 7:30.

I even saw the lights of the Goodyear blimp and it said “Ice Cube’s a Pimp.”

In other news, according to CNN: uno, dos, tres, it’s on. Hope it ends soon.

that’s the night

Ho-ly crap. I’m watching VH1 and learned something.

You know that song “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia?” You know who sung it?

Vicki Lawrence.

You know who that is?

MAMA FROM “MAMA’S FAMILY!”

Wow. Wowee wow wow wow.

mayday mayday

Yeah, so my website is down. You may have noticed that. I sure have. If you are nerdly and/or care what happened, it’s here. It’s not just my website, it’s a lot of people, including this year’s sensation, billybeaudoin.com. Ah well, hopefully it’ll be back to some semblance of functionality in 3-4 days.

In sports news, I played golf for the first time yesterday. Played with Christine XVI, William, and Davis Jim III. We played the back 9 at Knight’s Play. Chris got a 39 and the rest of us 3 tied with 42. Not bad for my first time, and I did have a good time. Sent one poor ball to a watery grave, but I said goodbye to it beforehand. I want to go again soon. . . I can see how some people get addicted to it.

This is just terrifying. I guess that’s Damien Wilkins?

Also, Ohio U came back to beat Miami of Ohio in overtime in the 2nd round of the MAC Tournament. I listened to that game live. Also wearing my new Ohio U shirt for the first time today, I guess I now know what brings them luck.

I’m depressed tonight, mainly a low-self-esteem thing, I dunno. I’ll go to sleep tonight and wake up okay tomorrow hopefully. Just eck, yuk, and ptui about everything. Mrah.

go shawty! isha birfday!

I have drank coffee every morning this week, thanks to Cynthia bestowing a coffee maker on me. Here on my desk sits a coffee maker. I have found myself much more focused this week. I guess caffeine is the poor man’s Ritalin. This week, my brain has been a day ahead. I have to keep reminding myself that this is not Thursday yet.

I don’t have much to write about. I have been working on our web site all week, which is another reason for my productivity — I like what I’m doing. No worries though, it’ll be back to the doldrums of software testing and tech support by next week.

So that record player I was talking about. . . yeah, the dude lost it. He has a lot of record players. He is kind of slow to send email too, but he has at least been in contact with me. So he couldn’t find the one I won (a Toshiba), and offered me a refund or a similar replacement. I want a record player, so he found a Pioneer that he thought would work, but upon testing it didn’t work right. A shame, since Pioneer is a step up from Toshiba. Now he has found a Technics that he is looking at, which is the pinnacle of “normal people” turntable quality. Hopefully it works, and hopefully he ships it to me. I want to get Dayo’s record player back down to the living room so the other gents can listen to it. Which reminds me, I think I will be buying a receiver soon as well. That switch we have as a poor man’s receiver is killing me.

Tiger Woods 2003 on XBOX = awesome. On PC = nearly as awesome.

Okay, back to the fun work.

tin soldiers and nixon’s coming

Ohio was infinitely excellent. Flew up, the ride was bumpy. Waited in the labyrinthine Columbus airport for a long while as Cynthia drove from Athens to pick me up. Found her, and then we went to a very yuppie mall that was a lot like Southpoint. Went to a bunch of yuppie stores; met a gentleman at Express who could not have been fruitier if he was dressed as a pineapple; bought chocolate.

Headed southeast, and stopped in Lancaster to go to Target. This made Cynthia very happy, as El Wal*Mart Gigante in Athens just ain’t a Target. We then went to Red Lobster, ate lots of sea-food, and now I have had an actual lobster tail. I elected to eat only the meat and sent the exoskeleton back, as I don’t need that much harsh roughage. I think it was overcooked, but still delicious. And the lady paid! I fell asleep on the way home and was dead to the world, even slept through Nelsonville, the town that is famous for being entirely made out of potholes.

Friday: Cynthia had to leave earlyish, as she had some classes and a math test. I stayed home, watched VH1, fixed up the lady’s computer, watched Andy Griffith, talked on IM, did some dishes. In the afternoon, once Cynthia got back, we went over to campus and to downtown Athens, where there were tons and tons of people. There was a hockey tournament there, and it was “Sibs Weekend,” where apparently OU students bring their little siblings to school and give them beer. I went to a record store, curiously named Schoolkids but unaffiliated with the Schoolkids around here. We then met Cynthia’s friends Brittany and Sandy for dinner at Tomatillos, which is their El Rodeo but maybe a little more gourmet. A fine meal. The ladies all had frozen strawberry margaritas; I had a lime one on the rocks. They are generous with the alcohol there. After about 3 sips I became a lot more talkative.

Saturday: went to the bulk food store. It was nice that there were probably 4 other customers that were there while we were. Nice to see the little guy getting some business. When you go to stores like that, it becomes clear why people dislike Wal*Mart – they put so many independent stores out of business. However, Wal*Mercado has convenience, which is something very important to us lazy Americans. And we went to the Emporio de Walton Super Gigante in Athens that afternoon. Didn’t buy all that much, but I did get a DVD of The Poseidon Adventure for $5. Got some records from Schoolkids. We dined upon meatball sammiches while watching Ocean’s Eleven.

Sunday: I had to go home. Sad. But neither of us were all sad about it really; it is a good feeling to know that you had a good time without sinking into post-visit depression. The flights home were okay. Nice and sunny until RDU.

This work week has held little of import. I am working on the web site and learning new technology. Also switched offices with Aaron. Back to the grind. . .
