yo it’s 3 thousand 30

Uh, a charge has appeared on my debit card that shouldn’t be there. I am not too worried because I have bought something from the store, it cost about what the mystery charge is for, and the amount is only around $30. But the thing is, the charge went through yesterday, and I haven’t been to the store since early October. Have to check up on that tonight.

It’s 79° up in this Raleigh! The record had been 72. That’s toast.

Sweet lord, what a nice day. I have only gotten to enjoy a very little bit of it though, as I have been outside Page for only a short while today. Walked over and got a veggie dog for lunch from the gentleman with the hot dog stand. He’s a very pleasant guy. That was a damned fine piece of un-meat he sold me, too. So I had a small lunch, a veggie dog with ketchup and some water. It’s good for me. Now hopefully, if things go well, I’ll be at Bojangles within 2 hours.

My arms still hurt from the gym/basketball. I guess that’s the product of taking time off from physical activity for a while.

To the Wake Forest game tonight. Songaila has played for them for what, about 8 years now? Shouldn’t he be gone?

Last night I went basketballing with me droogies. My shot was much better than it was last time. Still, I’m not all that good, but I felt better after last night. We were there for a good hour and a half. There were some guys off to the side waiting for one of the four baskets to free up, and they looked agitated that one of the baskets was being taken by an unskilled bunch as us. They left.

I was all psyched to go to the gym after work today, then I realized that I am going to the WF game tonight right after work. That is pretty good too, I guess. It’s not very often that I am psyched to go to the gym; I hope I can get up for it after work tomorrow.

Looking into spring break opportunities. Certain places are looking good…

Went to the gym this evening for a short time, feel good about that. Cycled for roughly 20 minutes, got dizzy, drank some water, chatted with Melissa and Justin, then lifted for a couple minutes. I guess it is good for you. If I can only get into the groove. . .

Crikey! 77° tomorrow? Such is the forecast. . . Wicked. Today was nice, so nice in fact, that after I went to the gym, I saw a girl who was taking her ferret for a walk. Sounds like a stupid Johnny Carson joke, I know (“Hi-ohhhh! A ferret, sir! YES!”) but it ain’t no joke, this ferret was running alongside Park Shops.

All right, I’m listening to B5 Aktuell, which is live German radio. They’re talking about Boy George and his sexuelle abenteure, and I am glad that I can not fluently understand all German I hear at normal speed.

G’night y’all. I have been sleeping well lately, and I’d like to keep that streak rolling by not staying up late.

unfortunately played-out

So a couple hours ago I said

A fine song ['The Middle' by Jimmy Eat World] is, and I hope that its catchiness does not cause it to go annoying in the fashion of similar SR-182 Hi-Fi Blink style songs.

Aaaaaand now I want to get rid of it. It has been stuck in my brain all day.

Trying out Windows XP Pro today, and it is just bleh. No, it’s not bad, but it’s not great, either. Pretty, I guess. Little else endears it to me now, especially not the constant nag “you have 30 days left to register this copy of windows xp” crap, which if I was not at work would be just a gentle reminder to don the eye patch and plunder before 30 days have gone by. But since I’m at work, I can’t hook that up. Drat.

a synopsis

Friday night: Went to Denny’s. The meal was satisfactory, but the fun came afterwards.
They have one of those coin-operated machines that allows you to try to pick up a stuffed animal with a descending claw. So we see a cute little ladybug in the corner, and decide that she will be ours.

“Oh, yes. She will be ours,” we said in unison.

Mandy was able to pick up the red spotted beauty and bring it to the drop-chute. Victory! — or so we thought. The Love Bug dropped at the chute, but became lodged due to a meddling rhino. This pink rhino with what appeared to be a HUMAN EYE imbedded in it was sticking its front half, including meddlesome horn, over the end of the drop-chute, spearing our bug!

Infidel! i screamed at it. Foul beast, un-hand our bug! Or un-horn her! Or un-hoof her! Set her free, that she may be ours! But it would not listen. Many dollars in coinage was subsequently spent trying to cram the bug down the chute with the claw, till at long last it worked! And down the bug dropped. Hooray!

But our joy suddenly turned to horror.

The bug dropped down the chute. We rejoiced. But the claw did not stop. Down, down! it went, ever closer to cruelly grabbing the fabulous bug and wrenching it from us. Thank our lucky stars, green clovers and purple horseshoes that Mandy has a claw of her own built into the end of her arm. She was able to snag the bug before it was reposessed, and the metal claw withdrew in sullen failure to its perch.

And that is how we got ourselves a ladybug.

Saturday: Went to the ESA, saw NCSU toy with Temple for the first half, then we blew them out in the second half and ended up winning 80-61.

Sunday: Watched the Steelers lose in pitiful fashion to the Patriots. I was so mad afterwards that I had to go for a walk to calm down. Walked a couple miles, then returned in a much more pleasant mood. The Rams-Patriots Super Bowl is going to be about 124-3, and the only reason I will watch is because I believe Torry Holt will set a record with 9 touchdowns.

=========================

I heard this song a couple times this weekend, and I liked it, so I downloaded it and listened to it with Cynthia, who had requested the download. A fine song it is, and I hope that its catchiness does not cause it to go annoying in the fashion of similar SR-182 Hi-Fi Blink style songs.

Wow. The Eos header is so flamboyant, it got stolen by the BGLA.

lovely day

All right, where to begin? Chris, Cynthia, Justin, Cherry, two of his girls, Melissa, and I watched the thorough beating of UNCCH last night from Mitch’s. The place had a pretty good atmosphere, especially towards the end when it became apparent that we could not possibly lose. So then we went outside and stood around, a redneck-sounding WHOOO! released from the crowd every few seconds. Slowly more people gathered, the WHOOO!s became more plentiful, cars started driving by honking their horns and waving State flags. I’d guess there were a couple hundred people out there.

It was a fun time. Some Wolf-Pack cheers across Hboro St, a jacked-up pickup with the horn that plays Dixie (I screamed “There go dem ol’ Duke boys!” at that truck), a Mercedes with two girls in bikinis and one topless guy out the sunroof, an SUV that went back and forth time and time again with a branch fulll of toilet paper (I guess they pulled it off a tree). . . good times.

Yeah, it’s only Carolina. They’re a pretty bad team this year; they are breaking all kinds of team suckage records. But wins against them are few and far between, so we gotta celebrate when we can.

It’s nice and warm today. 59° so far. That’s nice. Kind of rainy, but oh well.

Work is going well, too, though I wish I could get a copy of damn Windows XP up in here. I gotta start testing.

disappointment with the mails.

Hmm. I have just returned from sending out my camera to Olympus. I took it to the kindly gentleman at PostNet, right there next to the Hillsborouugh St Cup-A-Joe. I got the cheap UPS Ground shipping because it was cheap, but I can expect my shipment to arrive in California by 2008 if I’m lucky. (Actually, next Wednesday.) I also realized that two letters in the address were transposed, which should not matter too much; “Kilroy” was misspelled as “Kilory.” He hooked me up with the 10% faculty/staff discount, and it was still a lot cheaper than I had expected.

I also got my Smithsonian membership information, and they think I am “Ms. Anthony Baumann.” Oh well. I’ll call them and get that changed.

you’re sweet as a honeybee

Wow, there were 16 calls in my Remedy queue. No more. I am down to 15. That’s right, I am a call-answering machine, baby! Work is a little quiet this morning, partially because Aaron is out today, and partially because today is a student holiday.

This weekend was okay. A partial list of the goings-on: watched the Steelers beat the Ravens to a pulp (yay!); watched the Patriots beat the Raiders in a fun snowy OT game; sat and looked at the rain; took some photos of squirrels and inanimate objects; went to Darryl’s last night.

Sunday night Billy and I tried the thing his friends told him about, the thing being that when you mix Guinness and Bailey’s, it supposedly tastes like chocolate milk. Being idiots, we tried it. It did taste somewhat okay, and somewhat like chocolate milk inasmuch as it was sweet, but it was not pretty to look at. Next step is to try the “Car bomb” that Billy talks about, which includes the same ingredients and another shot of something-or-other on top which gets set aflame. My guess is that it will taste like crap.

Speaking of liquor, I hear the senior Park Scholar trip was a great success, what with Dayo and Jason being flashed by a male stoner, and Chris vomiting his guts out after playing drinking games with Mandy, and certain other folks waking up with people they did not intend to wake up with. And so it goes, the tribulations of the best and the brightest.

I have to send my camera in for repair tonight. It makes me sad to send it away, but the earlier I do so, the earlier it will come back to me fixed. I should upload some pics I took yesterday, there are some good ones there. I got one of a squirrel that cracks me up whever I look at it. It’s not that funny, it’s just that he is looking right at the camera and his head is shaped funny. Ah well, I’ll upload it tonight and you can see for yourself.

Back to work.
